The original color was more of a golden oak, but I thought it would really show off Varathane's new Cabernet Stain wonderfully -- and it does. STEP 1: Because the desk needed a few repairs, we sent it to a professional to be stripped (not dipped) and fixed. STEP 2: The finisher did most of the sanding, but we finish-sanded following our recommended finishing sanding tips. STEP 3: Wipe the desk and chair clean with mineral spirits. STEP 4: Stir the contents of the Cabernet Stain thoroughly before use. Apply with a synthetic or natural-bristle brush or clean, lint-free cloth. (We used a cloth for this project because of the detail.) Be sure to apply the stain across the grain until the wood is saturated on top. Wipe the excess stain off in the direction of the wood grain. Don't let the stain dry before wiping excess. .........................................................................................................................................
