A: It’s not hard to find waterbased clear finish, in both brush versions and in aerosol cans, in satin, but to be honest, I don’t know of anyone selling durable waterbased coatings in matte at the moment. You can get it from any industrial finish vendor that sells to commercial finishing shops, but I am assuming that is not what you want. If you can settle for satin instead of matte, try this waterbased polyurethane, but first clean the surface by scrubbing with mineral spirits or TSP on fine nylon abrasive pads. The solvent will remove any surface grease or oil while the pad lightly abrades the surface.
