| Q: I stripped the paneling in an attic bedroom. Now I want to color wash. I have not been able to find anyone who is encouraging me. Everyone says I should have left it painted.
A: I’m not sure what you mean by color wash, but I am going to guess you mean you want to apply color and wipe some of it back off to give the wood a pickled or washed look. The easiest way to do that is to take paint, in whatever color you want, and thin it with its solvent; mineral spirits for oil based paint and water for waterbased or latex paint. Thin it is much as you need to in order to get the color density you want. Obviously, the more you thin, the less color stays on after you wipe it.
