| Q: I am trying to put a coat of satin black paint on an already brown stained frame and I’m not exactly sure to go about it. Do you have any suggestions to help me?
A: First, clean the frame with mineral spirits or TSP on nylon abrasive pads to remove any oils, polishes or grease. Wipe the slurry with paper shop towels. When the wood is clean and dry, coat it with black paint. In this case I would suggest Rust-Oleum Universal, a paint that requires no primer and is sold in a very slick trigger controlled aerosol can.
