| Q: I have a wooden child’s rocker that originally had a very shiny black finish but at some point was painted pink. I would like to get it back to near original condition. It has been chemically stripped. Is there a black stain or dye that I should use or should I paint it?
A: I would paint it, as that is far and away the easiest alternative. Make sure the wood is clean of any old finish, sand it thoroughly and uniformly to at least 180 grit, and start with a coat of primer, such as Zinsser BIN. From there, add a couple of coats of gloss black paint.
